Description
In Prairie Poets III... The South Dakota State Poetry Society and its magazine organ, PASQUE PETALS, presents its sixth anthology of South Dakota verse, the product mainly of its outstanding monthly Creative Writing project, PASQUE PETALS. The Magazine preceded the Society by over a year. It was first published in May, 1926, by Prof. J.C. Lindberg and his student assistant, Rudolf Ruste, at The Northern South Dakota Teachers College, Aberdeen, S.D. With six exceptions it has been issued every month since. With the May, 1966 issue, it began its 41st year. Even as a four-page issue it had some 20 poems and the May, 1966, 16-pages carried 68. So it is easy to reckon that over 13,000 recognized pieces of original verse by South Dakotans for the most part, have furnished, what Prof. Lindberg hoped and urged, reiterant opportunity for self criticism to writers "by seeing themselves in print". Most of the poems in PRAIRIE POETS III have appeared in PASQUE PETALS since PRAIRIE POETS II was published in 1958. "Deep Memories" poems have been written in response to "The Beebe -- Valentine Poetry Contest," honoring Mr. and Mrs. Hiram Beebe's parents, or the new emphasis in the state of preserving events and scenes for posterity.
